Why Train with a Personal Trainer?

Training with Mark from The Foundation Fitness is easily one of my top 3 highlights in 2019 so far. I’ve always considered myself in shape and fit, but I know that I could reach the next level, just not by myself. I used to do a mix of strength/HIIT bootcamp classes, boxing, spin etc, but knew my body wasn’t changing the way I wanted it to. My body was actually in homeostasis - it was used to the types of exercise I did as well as the way I ate, so my body remained the same. Mark completely transformed my workout regimen and nutrition by introducing drastic change. I haven’t looked back since. Here’s a little more from my 3 month training mark with him.

Finding a good trainer is like dating. You need to find someone who you mesh well with and feel comfortable around. There are so many factors that influence your progress - injuries, stress, anxiety, work, nutrition, personal problems, etc. You should feel comfortable sharing this with your trainer so that he knows how to adjust your training. I’m an open book with Mark and he has a good idea of what is happening in my life at all times because it really does impact my training. That’s one great thing I really like about Mark. He’s so invested in his clients. I used to be skeptical of having a personal trainer because I felt like they were mass produced and didn’t care too much about your progress or you as an individual. Mark has dozens and dozens of clients, but he makes me feel like I’m his only one. That’s how dedicated he is.

So why should you get a personal trainer?

  1. Education on form and execution - people seem to think that cardio is the way to go for weight loss, but you need strength training. The smallest tweaks and adjustments during strength training can change how effective the exercise is. Every body is different; having a trainer figure out the best form for your body type is important.

  2. Getting nutrition right - this is a large part of how your body changes. Understanding what your body needs for fuel is key to achieving the body you want. You should track your caloric intake carefully and be consistent.

  3. Pushing up level of intensity during training sessions - it’s often that people don’t see the results that they want because they don’t push themselves hard enough during training. It’s easy to slack and be more forgiving when you train by yourself. When I train with Mark, I give him 110% effort, even though there are times when I walk into a training session not feeling 100%.

  4. Sculpting the body that you want - once you have the fundamentals down, you can begin focusing on specific body parts to fine tune. Your trainer can help build a program for you that helps target your specific needs.

  5. Someone to be your champion - it’s important to have a trainer help you keep motivated during exercise and hold you accountable. They should help you set realistic goals and make sure that you stay on track.

If you are in the Seattle area and want to train with Mark, feel free to email or DM him on Instagram. I promise you won’t regret it.
